Yissue is a PhD candidate in the Sustainable Earth Program in SCELSE, working on nitrification in the local drinking water distribution system that uses monochloramine for secondary disinfection. He obtained his BSc from Nanyang Technological University in 2012 where he was trained in molecular biology and cell biology, having worked on leptin signaling in adipocytes during his Final Year Project thesis. He joined SCELSE as a researcher in November 2012 to help with the Urban Waterways Integrated Theme, while focusing on metagenomics and metatranscriptomics analysis, and eventually ventured into metabolomics in the same lab of Prof Sanjay Swarup. He was trained and mentored in quantitative PCR by Dr Cecilia Cruz and Dr Veronica Rajal and now provides assistance to others interested in using qPCR. In his free time, Yissue enjoys playing badminton, trekking, hiking on nature trails, singing, and visiting galleries and museums.
