Samarpita obtained her M.S. from Texas A&M University, USA. For her master’s research she worked on a novel biofuel production technology, MixAlco™ Process, in Dr. Mark Holtzapple’s lab. Here she used ion exchange resins to capture carboxylic acids in a continuous process thereby making the biofuel production more efficient. Samarpita’s current research focuses on combined phosphorus and nitrogen removal in tropical wastewaters. She is also trying to tease apart the production pathways of nitrous oxide, a potential greenhouse gas, in this combined nutrient removal process. She is a certified scuba diver and when outside the lab enjoys outdoor activities and practices yoga.
