Guanglei earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at Beijing Normal University in 2011. Before joining SCELSE he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, NUS, where his research focused on membrane centered biological wastewater treatment processes for municipal wastewater treatment, water reclamation and nutrient recovery. At SCELSE, Guanglei is a research fellow in the Environmental Engineering cluster. He works on enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR). His research interests lie in understanding the key factors governing the stability of EBPR at high temperature; exploring the temperature limits of the EBPR process; uncovering any novel polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) in the full-scale wastewater treatment systems; and studying the physiology of key PAOs using combined biochemical and molecular approaches. Outside of work, he likes traveling and photography.
