Before coming to Singapore, Angel Anika Cokro attended Califonia State Polytechnic University, Pomona in the United States where she obtained her B.S. in Civil Engineering—Environmental option. She was involved in the design and construction of a laboratory-scale water disinfection system during her final year. Currently, she is finishing her PhD program at NTU School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. For her doctoral thesis, Anika worked with laboratory-scale anaerobic digesters to investigate the effects of important parameters such as temperature, substrate characteristics, and solids retention time on anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge. She also used metagenomic sequencing and analysis to elucidate the effects of these parameters on different microbial groups in the digesters. In her free time, Anika enjoys painting, sewing, and freestyle contemporary dancing.
